“Leaving”

Walking puts me in a meditative groove, and one of the best places to do so is the path around Geneva Lake in Wisconsin.

I made this photograph when I ventured out on the path on the north shore of the lake on November 1, 2002. The approximate location is by the former Jerseyhurst estate east of the Knollwood subdivision.

“Depths of Knowledge”

To me, this was the coolest place on Geneva Lake. Nowhere else could even compare.

I am talking about George Williams College (GWC) in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, along the north shore of the lake. The iconic dome of Yerkes Observatory is in the background.

I made this photograph on November 26, 2006, with my Leica 35mm camera and 135mm lens attached to a tripod positioned on Rainbow Point in Fontana along the south shore of the lake. The point is almost flat with the water, hence this perspective, captured on Ilford Delta 100 speed black-and-white film.

“All Is Calm”

If you are attuned to Christmas music, you will recognize the source of my title for this photograph. The first two lines of the beloved yuletide song “Silent Night” are “Silent night, holy night / All is calm, all is bright.”

In writing out those two lines I realized I could have used each of the four phrases as the title of this photo, which I made on the western shore of Geneva Lake in Fontana, Wisconsin.
